Break-In Repair Door & Replace Deadbolt | Mr. Locksmith Vancouver

The customer was broken into in East Vancouver. The burglars just kicked the door in. Very common Break and Enter in Vancouver. You can see the door was broken and the cheap Off-Shore deadbolt just failed. Unfortunately, too many of these inexpensive deadbolts ($10-$45) are installed in Vancouver, sometimes on new condos and new buildings.

Mike from Mr. Locksmith Vancouver rather than replace the door he installed a Mag Plate / Door Reinforcer (doubles the strength of the door) and a new Schlage Deadbolt (B660) with the Commerical Grade C123 Key and Cylinder. The Schlage Deadbolt is one of our favorite deadbolts.

We call this our Vancouver Special. The door frame did not need a 18″ Strike Plate installed on the door frame because it was metal.

Reinforce Door with Schlage Deadbolt Installation | Mr. Locksmith Blog

Go to http://www.mrlocksmith.com to learn more.

We have so many break-ins in Vancouver and the Lower Mainland we call this the “Vancouver Special.”  The Mr. Locksmith “Vancouver Special” is a Schlage heavy-duty, commercial-grade deadbolt or High-Security Abloy of Schlage Primus Deadbolt. It could be the high-security, pick-resistant lock or the 600 series Schlage. Absolutely love this. My dad was installing similar locks to this 50+ years ago and this install is still very effective against Forced Entry Brute Force attacks and kick-ins. The door reinforcer that goes the front, the edge, and the back of the door makes it hard to kick in and the door twice as strong against Forced Entry. The 18″ Strike plate with the 3-inch screws installed into the stud makes the door harder to kick in. This is a good and solid.

This is a typical aluminum or steel metal door with wood frame. We are going to put a Vancouver Special on here. We are going to change the Weiser deadbolt or any deadbolt, to a heavy-duty Schlage. We’re going to put a door reinforcer on the door to make the door harder to kick and we’re going to put a security plate on the edge of the door.

If you just look at the front of the door here and this is a typical install we see in everywhere, in most condos nowadays you have only one door. We have a residential-grade deadbolt that you can buy at any Home Depot store and just a lever handle or knob set

Again, this is the typical light-duty deadbolt. We have the metal frame with wood down the center and the thumb turn on the inside. A lot of times on these doors when they kick the door in the bolt will just break off or this whole door here will just split open. Sometimes as well on the strike this whole door will be kicked open so this one’s at least okay. It has 3-inch screws in there so that’s good, but if you look at the hole they haven’t even drilled it in 1 inch so this door has never locked properly. It’s a poor install from before so we’ll put on a strike plate on here.

This is the door reinforcer or a mag plate and Donjo makes them too. It makes the door harder to kick in so when you saw the metal edges of the wood this will fit on the door and it will make it harder to, for the door to split when somebody tries to kick it in. This also offers some protection against ice pick attack. The door reinforcer doubles the strength of the door so it just makes it harder to kick in and for these doors to spread open.

Install the door reinforcer and install 3-inch screws we’ll catch the stud in the door frame. This makes the door harder to kick in so we’ll install this on here, put in the 3-inch screws, 3 inch screws all the way down and it will make the doorway harder to kick in.

You can see in the video how the door reinforcer goes right around the edge of the door, the back of the door. We have the good, Schlage 600 series deadbolt in there. It’s a commercial grade. Same locks used in hospitals, schools and Universities and it doesn’t look like a monster lock. It fits in well. Some people like the full plate down here. We never install the deadbolts below the handle, hate it. Deadbolts always go here or higher. This was just, we took out the old Weiser deadbolt, or light-duty deadbolt, we put in a heavy-duty deadbolt. And this will make the door harder to kick in and again some, some people sometimes ill put the full plate. This customer just wanted that plate and again the door is way harder to kick in-

The new Schlage Everest lock system has 6 pins. It’s got the side pin, really hard to pick, hard to bump and difficult to pick. Actually, we don’t have a good time picking these.

There is the plate. You have the 3-inch screw and screw all the way into the stud. It’s a well-built house so it’s got the good frame and now that will make the doorway harder to kick in

The Schlage C123 or S123 key and cylinder is a 6 pin Schlage and very hard to pick open but not impossible. It is not rated as pick-resistant. The one up, Schlage Primus lock is UL rated as pick resistant, drill resistant, but this a perfect Vancouver Special install. A higher quality lock would be the Abloy Protec 2 Deadbolt.

Electronic door locks are typically battery powered with a battery life of around 2 years depending on use. If the batteries run out you can always a mechanical key to allow access. Some models have an exterior 9 Volt battery hookup to allow emergency power. Most models give an audible beep before the batteries go dead allowing approximately 80 openings depending on use. Note: only use quality brand name alkaline batteries. Mr. Locksmith highly recommends Duracell batteries.

One of the most versatile Electronic Commercial grade Lever Access Control Lock is the NDE wireless locks. The NDE locks can be stand-alone or integrated into popular electronic access control systems. This is my go-to lock for most customers who need an access control system. Many customers start with one lock and can expand to hundreds of doors. Customers include restaurants, retail, small and large business, hospitals, schools, Airbnb, apartment buildings, the list is endless. The NDE locks are very affordable, cost-effective, expandable and durable.

A more robust and great Electronic locks for growing or larger facilities is the Schlage CO 200 Access Control Lock.

One of my favorite residential Electronic Locks is the Schlage Sense Smart Deadbolt makes daily life easier and more convenient. Enter an access code on the touchscreen to unlock the door instead of searching your pockets for keys. Pairing the lock with your smartphone over Bluetooth® is as easy as pairing your phone with your car, and the free Schlage Sense app makes setting up and using the lock as simple as checking email. Share access with trusted friends and family with just a few taps – no more keeping track of spare keys

My Favourite Veto Pro Pac for Tools | Mr. Locksmith Blog

My Favourite Veto Pro Pac for Tools | Mr. Locksmith Blog

For further information go to http://mrlocksmith.com/

I now have four (4) Veto Pro Pac Tool bags for my locksmith tools.

Hi, I’m Terry. As a locksmith, I’m always trying to figure out how to carry my tools, how to have them convenient, what to do. I’ve tried everything over the years. As you get older, you also, now we’re looking at cart options; how am I gonna drag my tools around; what am I going to do? One thing that’s outlasted everything I’ve ever bought, is the Veto Pro Pac. They have an entire line, and I love they have the little ones; they have the larger kits. I’ve been using this for years.

I have other kits I use, and I tried Pelican cases, Pelican tool cases, which I really like, but these Vetos; I’ve also tried the stuff you buy at the various hardware stores; they’re selling packs and totes and all sorts of stuff. What lasts the best, the Veto Po Pac, Pro Pac.

They last forever. I would still order extra one of these shoulder straps, just ’cause it’s built so well; it lasts forever. It never wears out, never breaks. These things last forever. This is a great, this one here, this is probably like three years old, and look at it; it is like brand new.

The only disadvantage is, they’re empty, they’re quite heavy, and this is exposed to the weather when I’m sort of running in and out of job sites. It’s heavy, heavy duty; it’s expensive, but they last forever. My other bags I’ve bought, you know, between 50 and 70 dollars. They last me a year, if that, and they get pretty worn out, pretty quick.

These things last forever, and this is my enclosed one. This is just sort of one in the back of my, not my service truck, I just threw some tools in it. It just holds everything, everything in one spot. You can throw all your stuff in, you can throw your cordless drill, your picks, everything. I’ve been lookin’ at their backpack right now, for our Key Store, to have our guys run out and just do some quick little locked out of filing cabinets, so I’m looking at the Veto Pro backpack.

I will check out Veto Pro Pack website and see if they have something on wheels because they make such a fantastic system. What I really need is something on wheels. I put these right now on a little cart I have for out of the service truck, onto, up the elevator, because we’re downtown so lots of elevators and stairs, and I don’t wanna go back to the truck to get something

I forgot, so I throw these on a cart. I love this for my installation kit. This is just something just quick, easy, in the back of my personal vehicle, so if I get a lockout and I’m on the road, or I have to help somebody, I have my own personal tools with me. Again, great stuff, expensive, but they last forever, and fantastic, really, really good; I highly recommend it.

I hope you enjoyed watching this video. Subscribe to my channel.

A huge market right now for locksmiths is Emergency school lockdown procedures or “Active Shooter” as well as other institutions and even some commercial applications. However, for schools, there are so many security products on the market and a lot of it is just useless. Schlage has a great system. They call this the “classroom security function.” Basically, when you think about it, it is an Institutional lock so you have keys on both sides and it’s a classroom function. So again, you have keys on both sides. It’s a classroom function, but it can be locked down from the inside if there is an emergency. The Classroom teacher would have an “Emergency key” and if the alarm system or the speaker system sounds for “Lock Down Procedures” the teacher would from the inside of the door lock the door. From the inside, even though it’s got a lock on the inside, you can always open the door from the inside and it shows you which way if you can put the key in. From the outside, it’s a classroom function. When I put the key in, from the outside it becomes a storeroom function! So it’s always locked, you can’t get out, but the inside you can still come and go as you please. So, for during the day, when the school, the janitor, or the teacher, whoever unlocks the door, they do classic classroom function. Let’s unlock it. The kids can come and go as they please, it’s not a problem. If there’s a problem and you have to go to emergency lockdown procedures, all the teacher has to do is put their key in on the inside, turn it, that way, to the lock position. Now, it’s a class, it’s turned it into a storeroom function now. They can’t get in from the outside, just the teacher just simply just turn it and from the inside, you can still get out. So no matter what happens, you could always open the door from the inside and get out. From the outside, you just lock down the door. Quick, fast, efficient, easy upgrade for the school. When the “All Clear” is sounded and after the situation is over, the teacher can just turn it back into the classroom function, it’s just regular, again back to where it was. For a quick easy upgrade to your school, for emergency lockdown procedures, I highly recommend this is the Schlage, Schlage ND-Series and it’s called the “Classroom Security Function.”

In conclusion, the lock is an Institutional lock and it’s called the Classroom security. Love it, it’s absolutely fantastic for the schools. Quick, easy upgrade. Yes, there are more secure products we can install but again, for quickly getting your school retrofitted into complying with the emergency lockdown procedures, this is a fantastic product.

The Yale Nextouch is an interesting product. I haven’t been a fan in the past of the Yale electronic locks. However, a customer required several locks for public/customer washrooms and the Yale Lock meet the requirements and price point. The customer-specific reason is they want a restroom lock so that the junkies do not get into the washroom and shoot up. Welcome to the West coast and one of our biggest problems in public washrooms is junkies overdosing in washrooms.  Mostly we install deadbolts with the displayed privacy function. However, we have a lot of clients and customers who want a form of access control with key over-ride.

At the end of the day, customer needs some kind of accountability of who goes into the bathroom, but it’s just not left open. The customer can just enter a number to unlock it to let them. But because it’s a restroom, the only way you’re going to lock a door with something like this would be to put a barrel bolt on the door or another deadbolt.

The Yale Nextouch has a “Privacy mode.” The customer closes the door and holds the “Privacy mode” button a voice from the locks states “Privacy Mode Enabled.” So now anybody from outside has no access,  no matter what pin number is being used from the outside, it will not let you in because here you’re inside it will always tell you that somebody’s trying to get in, but it won’t allow them to pin their way in. Now the only time this is disengaged, it’s not because you pull the handle to open the door, but when the door swings open. The lock resets back to a storeroom function.

The lock is a heavy-duty design and ANSI/BHMA Grade 1 certification. Good lock for, Office doors, Restrooms, storage closets, or a scalable solution for a multi-family, retail or corporate property. The lock is upgradable access control to wireless ZigBee / Z-Wave or Data-on-Card technologies as system requirements change and grow.

Again, this is very simple. It’s a pin with a code with a key override. You have to install the door sensor to enable the “Privacy Mode.” Presently, no master pin code over-ride, to open if someone is inside would require the key to over-ride the pin code function to open the door.

In conclusion, the price point is very, very good. The lock appears to be quite a heavy-duty unit. Normally, I would probably recommend the NDE but it does not have the pin code function. One problem is the user has to hold that button down for three seconds to enable the “Privacy Mode Function.”  The unit does come with a sticker you can put on the door or lock on how to use it.

Open a Locked 2017 Ford Fusion Ford Fusion Energi Hybrid Vehicle | Mr. Locksmith.

For further information go to http://mrlocksmith.com/

Today, we are going to play with a 2017 Ford Fusion Energi. This thing is a hybrid. It uses a prox key. Also, it has a key override on the door, but I don’t think on the ignition. We’ll find out. We’ll go through everything, and we’ll play with it. We’re gonna show you how to open it. So just the traditional long reach tool. Now if you hit the electric lock, it’s not going to open on this model, so we just pull the door handle. And I always have the customer stand on the driver’s side. I always open up the car from the passenger side. Have the owner stand on the driver’s window. Have him look through it and have him help you. This just keeps him out of your hair so you can open up the car. Hitting the electric locks, not going to help. You have to pull the handle. And boom, off she goes. So pretty easy opening. If the car is dead and you can’t open it, you scan till pull out the physical key. Just gotta, you gotta depress, push it in, depresses. There we go. And then it just pulls off. So you have to put the key in properly. Put it on the top. 2017 Ford Fusion Energi, it’s a hybrid. Normal prox, easy to program in the proxes on the MVP. If you wanna cut the key, it’s an eight cut high security. We didn’t have a Lishi pick for it. We’re gonna get one if we have to pick it open. Again, very, very easy car to open. Just a simple long reach tool, but don’t hit the electric locks. Hit the handle, pull the handle to release it. And again, the key to get in if everything’s dead on the car, if you have this set, your customer has a set, they can pull out the key and physically open it up, remove the cap. Okay, so I hope that helps a little bit.

– Prox with Ford 8 cut High-Security key. Easy to add a key with the MVP Pro.

– Easy to open with a “Long Reach Tool” and Air Bags but you have to pull the handle to open.

– Key over-ride on the drivers’ door hidden in the handle.
